NAMM SHow 2012 - Day 1

I flew into LA on wednesday the 18th of January via Auckland NZ. I shuttled it over to my hotel in Anaheim, and spent the dy hanging out with my mate Dan Gibney from Australia who is exhibiting at his first NAMM Show. It was a long day after travelling through the night with no sleep!

Thursday was day one of the show and it was off to a great start. I had some great jams at various booths, and met some great people. After the show, I went to see Israel Houghton and the Lakewood Church team who were performing at the Hilton hotel as part of a worship night. It was really great to hang out with those guys!

Here’s som pics from Day one:) More to come tomorrow!

Anonymous asked: What is the most important thing you believe any bassist should know?

hmmm, that’s a hard one to answer. I think it might be to find your own voice.

Just got the new source audio programmable eq pedal. Straight out of the box, it’s dead simple to operate and instantly usable. Each frequency is easily selectable and adjustable, with nice distinct tonal differences as you sweep across the bands. It’ll be nice to put this into the rig and see how she goes out in the real world:) the lights are another nice feature. It’s very nightrider. Thanks @thumpmusic

I went to see directions in groove last week on their new clearlight tour. Now I’ve seen them once in the 90’s, once in the naughties & now last Saturday night at the corner hotel in richmond. I am definitely biased in my opinion since I’m a huge fan, but I am truly glad they came back for this tour. Terepai is still the man as far as I’m concerned. All the other guys are great too, but these guys together have that once in a generation chemistry. Fine musicianship played by some pioneering hipsters still showing us how it’s done. Simple PEE-HAYCHE phat grooves, supremely tasteful improvising with a dash of melodic pop thrown in. It’s been their magic formula for 20 years, and while ever pushing into new territory, there’s still that element of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. You DIG?!

Anonymous asked: What effects do you use for worship?

I dont actually use many effects in worship. I occasionally use a boss OSC3 octaver in praise. I use a lot of effects at different gigs though….

Here’s some pics from a trip I did to Perth in August with Henry Seeley and Darran Muller.

Out on the jetty at frankston last week. It was a beautiful end of winter day:)
